Colophon
So you’re looking for the obligatory about page eh? Well, this is it for now. I tend to go back and update this from time to time, but there’s no guarantee that this is up to date in any way.
About me...
I’m the guy who runs this little site. My name is Ryan, and I currently live in Milwaukee, WI with my wife and our three dogs. (2 Boston Terriers and a Boxer if you're curious.)
I'm a Unified Communications Technical Lead. I specialize in Cisco UC solutions, but do work with others from time to time. I've been working with Cisco UC products since they were still Selsius and Active Voice. (That's somewhere around 1998 for those that remember.) This site is my personal blog, but I tend to post technical tidbits as well.
I've had the ciscomonkey.net domain now for over 10 years now. Wow. Has it really been that long? Yep. Since '98. You can read more of the domains history below.
Enjoy.
History of ciscomonkey.net
Back in the day, this site hosted a LOT of Cisco related information. Mainly regarding IPT stuff. At the time, information was not very easy to find on Cisco's site, so I started keeping my own reference links to documents, good troubleshooting guides, and pretty much anything else I found of value. There were also some pretty useful forums back in the day, but all of that has long gone away. (Thankfully.)
After retiring the support-related site, I eventually retired my personal domain and started using this one for my own personal blog. It's gone through a lot of changes/reworks/crashes/restarts since then. When I first started out, there wasn't really much in the way of blogging software that caught my interest enough to continue using it, so I went and recreated the wheel and wrote my own blogging platform. For a few years Ciscomonkey Dot Net ran software that was completely written from scratch using PHP, MySQL, XHTML/CSS, Smarty and a whole lot of fiddling.
These days, I definitely don't have the time to support my own software between work and real life. Hosting the domain out of my basement has also posed it's own set of issues over the years. (Yeah. I know. But this is the geek arms race!) I finally found an awesome platform named Habari that powers the site, and I've moved everything out of my basement to Media Temple.
I've even got a few plugins that are available.
